Memory Performance:
Performance is pretty good, despite the fact that onboard video naturally absorbs some bandwidth away from general usage. Regardless of not being able to adjust any memory options it's not that much slower than a non-integrated video based Intel P965 or 975X chipset motherboard running at 3-3-3-9-1T.
Disk Performance:
The SATA read tests were conducted with a 74GB Western Digital Raptor using HD Tach 3.0.1.0's 8MB zone test. USB and Firewire tests were conducted using a SimpleTech 250GB external drive with IEEE1394a Firewire and USB 2.0.
SATA bandwidth is the same regardless of using ICH8 or ICH8R, with a Western Digital Raptor. USB 2.0 performance has very little difference and the Agere Firewire chip performs a fraction faster than the Texas Instruments on the Gigabyte.
